Dr. Sercan Sahin
Dr. Sercan Sahin is a lecturer at Limerick School of Art and Design and teaches courses in Print Contemporary Practice. He studied Visual Arts Education with a Graphic Arts focus at Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir, completed his MA in Printmaking with Distinction at California State University, Chico, and earned his Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Art Education from Arizona State University.
His academic research is primarily concerned with the design and delivery of fine art education curricula in particular print media from a community of practice perspective. Using his knowledge and experience in fine art education, his research is concerned with the design, delivery, and effectiveness of collaborative studio projects third level. He was the lead researcher on the Studio Intersection Project which was funded by The National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education - SATLE Funding (the Strategic Alignment of Teaching and Learning Enhancement.
He received various funding from the Art Council ( Travel and Training, Agility) and has presented research papers at international conferences such as NAEA (National Art Education Association), AERA (American Educational Research Association), InSEA (International Society for Education through Arts), and ESAI (Educational Studies Association of Ireland).
The concepts of place, space, language, and memory are central to Sercan’s studio practice. He investigates the relationship between landscape-place, the feeling of belonging, and history through densely layered compositions using various studio methodologies such as drawing, printmaking, and mixed media materials and methodologies.
